Naga Council wants govt to clarify on exorbitant labour wages

DIMAPUR, AUGUST 2 (MExN): The Naga Council has stated that it was in receipt of public complaints that various labourers particularly immigrant labourers are known to be charging exorbitant rates for daily wages to the tune of Rs. 250/- upto Rs 300/- per labour per day which according to the Naga Council was “beyond reasonable and way too high beyond the affordable range for economically poor citizens in the state”. A press note from the Naga Council Vice President (Administration) Vikato Zhimomi and Treasurer D. Rhakho has stated that while certain sections have requested for a public debate to highlight the random daily wages being charged by labourers, it was of the view that prior to any public debate, the concerned Government department/agency dealing with wages should take up the matter and rectify the serious anomaly through official directives in the media for benefit of all concerned.
