Naga filmmakers to join US film festival

Kohima | July 6 : In a major boost for uprising Naga filmmakers, the USA based Nazareth College under University of Rochester have extended invitation to 5 filmmakers from Nagaland to its forthcoming film festival in USA starting from July 15.
In this platform, Naga filmmakers will not only screen their works but will also get opportunity to release a Naga film entitled “Naga Head Hunter.” Naga film makers will screen their works on July 20 as well join the cultural exchange programme. This initiative is the followed up of Global Film Festival organized by XL Nagaland during the Hornbill Festival of Nagaland last year. Nazareth College too participated in that festival in the form of screening their works as well as interactive session with the local filmmakers.
Five Naga filmmakers to make it to the film festival in USA includes: Sesino Yhoshu, Sophy Lasuh, Myingthungo Lotha, Liyo Kikon and Kele Yhoshu. Talking to media persons here this evening at Dream’s Café, XL president Abu Metha asserted that the release of Naga film in USA during the festival will be a big step forward for Naga filmmakers and also pave the way for many more talents.
Metha said the presence of Naga filmmakers will also build better relationship with others and create more opportunity for upcoming talents. Metha stated that XL Nagaland, a Kohima based organization promotes and recognizes the Naga talents in the field of sports, music, art and the like.  He said the XL has confidence in Naga youth to live as equal citizen and equal footing in this global village. He added that XL will always stand to recognize and create new vista for them to achieve their desired goals.
Excel president was also appreciative of the state government for sponsoring the forthcoming trip through CM’s Corpus Fund. Metha stated that Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio was encouraged by such step and termed it as a “wonderful idea.” In the meantime, Metha thanked the duo Brain Bailey and Heather Layton from Nazareth College for motivating the Naga filmmakers.
