Naga Hoho Executive flays Deputy Speaker’s statement

‘Confusion created within Hoho due to misuse of power’

Dimapur, November 24 (MExN): The ‘Naga Hoho Executive’ today flayed the statement issued by its Speaker on November 23 as “misleading.” The Speaker Kenyungseng Tep in a statement issued to local dallies had claimed that the Naga Hoho Federal Assembly will “exist till new team is elected.’

The rejoinder issued by the Naga Hoho Executive ‘including the Assembly Secretary of Federal Organ’ maintained that the Speaker acting as the “President of the Rengma Hoho and also the Deputy Speaker/Acting Speaker of the Naga Hoho” was “due to misuse of power.”

The rejoinder clarified that a Search Committee could not be set up, two months ahead as per the constitution as “the Acting Speaker failed to uphold the decision and directive of Executive Council.”

“In this regard, the Executive directed the Acting Speaker to summon the Federal Assembly on November 3, 2017 and July 31, 2018. In fact, he himself was also present when the Executive resolved to summon the Federal Assembly on November 3, 2017. However, he turned deaf ears and refused to summon the Federal Assembly of which the reason best known to him,” the Hoho stated.

It further maintained that the “intention was only to address the conflicting views and differences among the constituent units and Executive Council in the Federal Assembly and thereby hammer out the differences.”

Further, alleging the Acting Speaker of “propagating to run the affairs of Naga Hoho even after the expiry of the present tenure,” the executive members affirmed that he is neither above the Executive Council nor the Yehzabo (Constitution) of Naga Hoho.

It further added that the Hoho waited for more than twelve months for the Acting Speaker to convene the Federal Assembly. “When our tenure has come to an end, we decided to convene the Presidential Council meeting as another option on November 26, the rejoinder said.

The Hoho, has therefore appealed all Tribe Hohos and well wishers “not to be swayed away by the misleading news item from the Acting Speaker” and further requested to “attend the meeting for the sake of unity and fraternity among the Nagas.”

The press rejoinder was appended by Naga Hoho President P Chuba Ozukum, Vice President Samson Remei, Vice President HK Zhimomi, Secretary, Cultural & Customary Affairs Mhonchumo, Secretary, Federal Assembly K Elu Ndang.
