Naga Hoho says its president took unilateral decision on joint statement

DIMAPUR, AUGUST 28 (MExN): The Naga Hoho has issued a rejoinder over the joint declaration made by the United Naga Council (UNC) and its president Chuba Ozukum on August 23 at Tahamzam, Senapati.

In the joint declaration, the Naga Hoho and the UNC on Thursday cautioned any one defying the Naga political principle and its position shall be treated as “anti-national and their entry shall be banned in Naga territory.”

It also declared that “any Naga elected representative, political leader, political party, unmandated or unauthorized Naga individual or group shall not attend or participate in any assembly (s) or meeting that will sabotage the Naga peace process.”

A rejoinder issued by Naga Hoho general secretary, Mutsikhoyo Yhobuh and Information & Publicity Secretary, C. Daipao on Tuesday alleged that its president Chuba Ozukum took a unilateral decision in signing the declaration without discussing with the Executive Council nor the Federal Assembly of the Naga Hoho.

It stated that Chuba Ozukum has been requested to demit his office gracefully following the resolution passed on October 31, 2017 taking into cognizance the letter served by the Ao Senden of its dissociation from the Naga Hoho and directing the president to resign from his position.

In addition, four tribes i.e. Pochury Hoho, Rengma Hoho, Chakhesang Public Organisation and Angami Public Organization had put a stricture on the functioning of the Naga Hoho and for which the executive has served a reminder to Chuba Ozukum to demit his office, it stated.

Notwithstanding such requests, the Naga Hoho alleged that Chuba Ozukum in total defiance continue to issue press statements and has even gone to the extent of signing declaration as the Naga Hoho president which is against the spirit of the Yezabo of the organization.

Differing with certain points contained in the joint declaration, the Naga Hoho said “intimidation or ostracization of certain section of people as contained in the declaration is contrarian views of the Naga Hoho to achieve peace.”

While appreciating the progress of the Naga peace process with the Government of India, the Naga Hoho however felt that the inordinate delay caused by the GoI is regretful and has therefore urged for an expeditious settlement.
