Naga issue beyond politics, Congress to Naga Hoho

Dimapur, July 30 (MExN): The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) is not pleased that the Naga Hoho credited only to Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio the Joint Legislature Forum’s resolution to resign in the event of Indo-Naga political statement.
The NPCC issued a statement today strongly implying that the entire initiative was not a single person’s but a joint commitment of both the ruling and the opposition parties.

The Naga Hoho has issued a statement Thursday, July 26 on the resolution adopted by the Joint Legislature Forum (JLF). The “hoho” had stated that it “fully appreciates the landmark resolution adopted by the Joint Legislature Forum under the leadership of chief minister Neiphiu Rio for their willingness to resign from the present position/status in the event of Indo-Naga political statement”.

The “irrational statement” that the JLF resolution was adopted under the leadership of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio is totally misleading and a misconception of the noble objective for which the Congress MLAs had conscientiously joined the forum, the NPCC said through its general secretary Vaprümu Demo.

Stating to prove its point, the Congress stated a point in the forum’s resolution “…The JLF puts on record that all the sixty Members of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly have come together cutting across party lines under a joint forum in the greater interest of Naga society by responding to the cry of the people and have worked collectively in facilitating the peace process.

The JLF declares its commitment that all sixty Members of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly have resolved to pave way from our present positions for any alternative arrangement that may come about from logical conclusion of the ongoing peace process”.

The resolution was adopted the chairmanship of the Speaker Keyanilie Peseye, and jointly signed by the Opposition Leader Tokheho, NPCC President SI Jamir, Speaker Keyanilie Peseye, NPF President Dr. Shurhozelie and Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, the NPCC said.

“9 and ½ years of DAN Govt. have miserably failed to facilitate any concrete progress towards the professed solution. Therefore, it is illogical for the Naga Hoho to attribute the latest joint venture of the honorable members of two distinct political parties to one of the signatories,” the opposition added.
