Naga officer injured in IED blast in Chhattisgarh

A Naga officer of the CRPF’s CoBRA battalion was injured in an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast on August 7 in Chhattisgarh under Sukma district.  

36 years old Khyothungo Ezung, Asst. Commandant, CRPF belonging to the Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) Unit 201 was on duty when he was injured in the blast around 9.30 am on Tuesday morning.  

According to a PTI report, the explosion took place when a team of the CoBRA was patrolling near Timilguda village under Sukma district. Ezung suffered injuries in his abdomen and underwent treatment at a hospital of the paramilitary force in Chintalnar.  

Family members in Kohima who were informed of his injury only at 3 pm mentioned that it took 12 hours by road to evacuate Ezung from Sukma district to Jabalpur and another 10 hours from Jabalpur to Raipur.  

Ezung underwent surgery in Raipur and is reportedly in a stable condition.  

In a telephonic conversation, Nagaland DGP, T. John Longkumer said Ezung is currently admitted in the Specialised Trauma Centre, Raipur and is out of danger. Mention may be made that around 14 Naxals were killed in an encounter with security forces on August 6.
