NAGA-PEX 2025 underway in Kohima

A two-day district-level philatelic exhibition billed as NAGA-PEX 2025 got underway here today at Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Kohima, organised by the Department of Posts, Nagaland Postal Division.

The event witnessed the participation from 12 schools and about 150 students, vying in series of activities including a quiz, letter-writing, stamp design and a philately workshop.

The exhibition also showcases 50 frames of non-competitive stamp exhibits and a ‘My Stamp’ personalized stamp counter.

Delivering keynote address, Dr. Alice Keviwetuonuo Vizo, Director of Postal Services, Nagaland Division said that the idea behind philatelic exhibition is to invoke interest especially among the students to have the hobby of collection and study of postal stamps and also to introduce philately clubs in the educational institutions.

She maintained that philately waves together history, geography, culture, personalities, science technology, flora and fauna and serves as a cultural ambassadors showcasing cultural heritage, arts and also serves as a national identity.

“It is a wonderful hobby for increasing knowledge, appreciation of art and it is also therapeutic in nature,” Vizo said.

She said that there is story behind every stamp, adding that a stamp cannot be issued out unless there is some very important/significant things about it.

The inaugural session also witnessed the release of a Special Cover on Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Kohima, sponsored by 1998-1999 alumni batch.

The cover will also be displayed at National Philatelic Museum, New Delhi.

The inaugural session was chaired by Noketho Rhetso, Superintendent of Posts (HQ).

Fr. Innocent Panmei, Principal of Don Bosco Higher Secondary School Kohima invoked God’s blessings. 

A special song was presented by Anivo Nagi.

The exhibition will conclude on September 2 with a prize distribution ceremony and display of winning entries.
