The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) today celebrated 79th Naga Independence Day at Naga Solidarity Park, Kohima.
In his message, NSF general secretary Chumben Khuvung said “This day is a testament to our enduring spirit, our rich cultural heritage and our unwavering aspirations for autonomy. As we stand together, we honour the sacrifices made by our freedom fighters and forefathers who tirelessly fought for our Naga rights and our Naga identity.”
He said that Naga struggles for independence is not only a political movement, “it symbolises our quest for dignity, justice and recognition.”
“Today, as we raise our Naga flag high, let us reaffirm the commitment to work and fight for our dreams and Naga aspirations,” Khuvung said.
NSF assistant general secretary Kenilo Kent said “We are gathered here this morning in remembrance of all the costly sacrifices that have shaped our journey towards the Naga Nationhood. We remember our visionary leaders and heroes of the past, whom we, have grown up to admire as legends and martyrs, it was only through their uncorrupted vision and sacrifices which have given us the very purpose and legacy of a Nationhood.”
Let us remember that the journey towards a definite Naga future lies not only in political negotiations alone, but in building bridges of trust and understanding in our everyday lives, and in the acceptance that the strength of each entity, tribe and region is acknowledged and held together into one diverse caravan of progress as one Naga family, he added.
Earlier, flag hoisting was done by Joseph Ngouri, Senior Leader NSF while NSF games & sports secretary Kevilelhou Zumu chaired the programme.
