Dimapur, January 18 (MExN): Dr. Wati Longchar, a writer and theologian from Nagaland has been given the responsibility as the Dean of Program of Theology and Cultures in Asia (PTCA) and the Director of Asia-Pacific Indigenous Research Centre at Taiwan. He will be assuming the position at the institute located at Hualien County, the largest county in Taiwan geographically.
He was also the Dean of the Extension Department of Senate of Serampore College (University) in Kolkata prior to the present assignment.
Besides, holding several positions under various capacities, Dr. Longchar is a prolific writer whose book, “Returning to Mother Earth” was listed among 15 outstanding books published in 2012 in the field of World Christianity, a press note from Panger Ozukum P.A to Executive Secretary, Ao Baptist Church Association (ABAM) informed.
He has authored, edited, co-authored and co-edited thirty eight books in English and seven books in his mother tongue Ao, it added.
Recognizing his distinguish contribution in the field of indigenous theology and theological education, he was also invited to serve as consultant in various international forums and committees, it said adding that he served as consultant for ecumenical theological education program of Asia and Pacific – a joint appointment of World Council of Churches and Christian Conference of Asia for almost seven years. He also served in various committees of NCCI and other forums.
“Many church leaders have been benefited through the program on ‘Re-reading Bible in Context for Social Transformation’ he initiated specifically for the North Easterners,” the press note maintained quoting him that he is willing to return to North East and Nagaland any time when churches need his service.
Besides, he is also an advocate of Inclusive Community for those who experience discrimination and exclusion in society due to disability, HIV & AIDS and people with different sexual preference, it said.
Dr. Longchar will represent Indigenous Theologian Network in the Faith & Order Commission of the World Council of Churches and various indigenous forums around the world, the ABAM further noted appealing for support and solidarity for the success of his work.
