Nagaland Minister for Agriculture and Cooperation, G Kaito Aye, said Naga unity is the need of the hour and that this unity should start within the Naga family.

“Let us not give chance to outsiders to say or preach to us that Nagas must unite, it is our (Naga) duty to strive for Naga unity,” the Minister said in his address after inaugurating the New Naga Cemetery here at Zani Village area.

Kaito said Dimapur being the commercial hub with people from all districts of Nagaland coming and settling in Dimapur for their sustenance and other activities, Naga Council Dimapur should lead the way in fostering unity among the Naga tribes.

He also said Naga Council needed to be strengthened further.

On the recent letter of Nagaland Governor to the Chief Minister, calling the attention of the latter on “corruption” and deteriorating law and order in the state, Kaito said, perhaps there might have been a kind of “liberal” atmosphere since everybody was expecting early solution to the Naga political issue as assured by the Centre.

The Minister also reminded that there are other non-Naga insurgent groups operating in the state, especially Dimapur. “But ultimately, we get the blame,” he added.
