Oriental College Kohima 2nd Skill Fest underway

The 2nd Skill Fest of Oriental College Kohima got underway here today in the College Auditorium with Entrepreneur Associates (EA), Chief Executive Officer Neichute Duolo as the speaker.
Duolo in his address challenged the Naga youth to change their mindset and not to consider the government job as the only option for employment and earning livelihood. He said Nagaland has ample opportunities in entrepreneurial and enterprises if we utilize our land and resources properly.
Duolo cautioned the young students that this present society, problem is not only about money and resources but also the wrong mindset.
He highlighted the various opportunities in farm based skill livestock, farm based skill in horticulture, skill development in education with English teaching skills, skill development in construction, skill development in housekeeping for homes, skill development folksong teachers and story tellers, skilled and drivers others.
He also stressed on the need to explore potential skill development that is contextual to Nagaland like folksong teachers and story tellers, to involve with the needs of the market and emerging gaps in skilled human resources.
Oriental College Principal Dr Ketshukietuo Dzuvichu said that the skill fest programme has been initiated for the young people to live a productive life as everybody cannot be accommodated in the government job.
Stating that around 600-700 students are graduating every year, Dr Dzuvichu said that annually around 150-200 graduates are recruited through NPSC only.
In this, he challenged the young students to take up skill development and find out alternative route to earn their living.
He said it is high time to give importance to skill development and become entrepreneur for the students and young people to develop professionalism without which any employer would employ the unskilled youths.
He informed that this skill fest will cover diverse areas- coffee plantation, electrical fittings, knitting, food processing, ornament making, mushroom cultivation, planting and farming, baking, floriculture, handicraft and carpentry, entrepreneurship and others.
In today’s technical session, Dr Menuoseituo Tsiekha, District Project Officer, Land resources, Kohima talked on “Coffee plantation,” Neitho-o Kuotsu, Deputy Director, Directorate of Fisheries on “ fishery” and Dr Hiabe Zeliang, Deputy Director, Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services on “Piggery”
