NAGALAND 22ND HORNBILL FESTIVAL 2021 – DAY 1

Hornbill International Photo Fest: Advisor to Chief Minister Nagaland, Abu Metha stated that the Hip-Fest has contributed to the growth and journey of the Hornbill Festival and it is festivals like these that Nagaland is taken to the world, and the world is bought to Nagaland, while inaugurating the Hornbill International Photo Fest organized by DIPR and Eastern Art Council at Kisama on December 1.

Metha stated that photography is an art that can speak a thousand words and tell the story of the Naga way of life in one picture. Hornbill Festival is not only about one event but is a wholesome Naga experience. While we promote, preserve Naga culture by showcasing our dances, songs, it also events like these that show that the younger generation is arriving the world stage. Art, photography and music are taking Naga soft power beyond our boundaries, he added. Abu further added that the Hornbill Festival amplifies the new found ambition of the Naga youth to step out to achieve excellence in the new environment of the global stage. The success story of the Hornbill Festival is not only of the Government but the success story of the people of Nagaland and every Naga citizen is a stakeholder of the festival. 

Proprietor, Portrait Studio & Eastern Art Council, Myinthungo Ezung stated that Hip Fest started in the year 2008 and has come a long way as part of Hornbill Festival. Hip Fest has bought photographers, artisans and enthusiasts not only from the State but from all over the world under one roof. He stated that the exhibition shows every aspect of Naga way of life though photographs. He informed that there are 46 participants with 116 entries for this year’s photo competition and the results will be declared on 3rd December, while the prizes will be awarded on December 7. Myinthungo also thanked the Department of Information & Public Relations for supporting the event and coming in as a partner. 

The Hornbill International Photo Fest also has photos on display by Tom Potisit, an award winning professional photographer from Thailand. Tom is well known for stimulating conversations on social and environmental issues across various mediums and industries.

Craftscape Corner: The Craftscape Corner was inaugurated by Advisor to Chief Minister, Nagaland, Abu Metha at the Naga Heritage Village, Kisama. Metha congratulated the curator, Sentila T Yanger and thanked her team for adding so much value and colour, and dimension to the Hornbill Festival. The exhibition presents an opportunity to meet Naga artisans and experience handmade distinctions of tribal craft specialties by skilled artisans who embrace dignified livelihoods in keeping alive intangible heritage. The exhibition also seeks to create awareness on the fading craft traditions. The artisanal crafts will be available for sale directly from the artisans. 

Handicraft Thematic Exhibition: Advisor, Industries & Commerce, Labour & Employment Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Imnatiba Jamir inaugurated Handicraft Thematic Exhibition on December 1. It is being organized by Directorate of Industries and Commerce, sponsored by Development Commission (Handicrafts) Ministry of Textiles, India. Addressing the launching program, he said that hornbill festival is a platform to provide an opportunity to local entrepreneurs to promote and sell their products. Altogether 50 stalls were allotted to the artisan from all the districts. It seeks to rekindle the rich culture and enhance their livelihoods. 

Hortiscape and Agri Pavilion: Hortiscape and Agri Pavilion at Hornbill Festival 2021 were inaugurated by Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio at Kisama on December 1. The Hortiscape showcases varieties of greens, succulents, cactus, orchids, flower and pine saplings from floriculturists in the State and Sikkim, and are for sale.

A State level flower show-cum-competition was also organised by the Department of Horticulture. The flower competition is being held in various categories. In Ferns & Foliage category, the first prize was won by Kehosale, Aheli Zhimomi, Kehosale won the second prize and Martha won the third prize. In Cacti & Succulents category, Suohienuo Keyho won the first prize, Peleno won the second prize and Egu Pienyii won the third prize. In the indigenous foliage & flowers category, Kokono and Dzieseneino Nakhro won consolation prize. In Bulbs & Tubers category, Rokovino Zhasa won the first prize, Kikruhenuo Solo won the second prize and Kerineiu Nakhro won the third prize. In Orchids (Indigenous) category, Kevi Pienyii won the first prize, Aienla Ozukum won the second prize and the third prize went to Vesapralii Vasa. In Orchids (Hybrid) category, Meyieno Chuse won the first prize, Azeno Zashiimo won the second prize and Aphrenuo won the third prize. In Bonsai category, Dr. Vizovol Mekro won the first prize, Letso Mekro won the second prize and Anei Usou won the third prize. In Perennial category, N. Asangla won the first prize, Avono won the second prize and Temsuyangla Pongen won the third prize. In annuals & biennials category, Aphrenuo won the first prize, Khrienuo Solo won the second prize and Kekhrieneinuo won the third prize. In flower arrangements (fresh), Vilerei won the first prize, Sabino won the second prize and Kikruhenuo won the third prize. 

Fruits and vegetables like oranges, pineapples, bananas, kiwi, ginger, mushroom, etc. from various districts of the State are also available for sale at the Hortiscape from December (1-10). Some of the entrepreneurs who are selling their agri products this year are Kerhung SHG Farm, Naturally Nagaland Food & Craft, Oakland Organic Agri & Allied Cooperative Society Ltd, Entrepreneurs Associates, Chansu Organic Kiwi Producer Company Ltd, Green Accent, Cold Mountains, Charity Club Multipurpose Society Wokha.  

‘DIPR NAGALAND’ Mobile App: ‘DIPR NAGALAND’ Mobile App was launched by Advisor to Chief Minister, Nagaland, Abu Metha at the Media Facilitation Centre, Naga Heritage Village, Kisama on December 1. 

Calling the launching of the ‘DIPR NAGALAND’ Mobile App ‘the way forward,’ Abu Metha said that the Department of Information & Public Relations is one of the first departments in the Government of Nagaland to have a mobile app on Android and iOS platform. 

A DIPR report stated that Zhalhouvi-e Nagi, Business Development Manager, Excellogics Tech Solutions delivered a brief overview of the ‘DIPR NAGALAND’ Mobile App, which is a one stop information platform for all official news in Nagaland. 

The programme was chaired by Director, IPR, Er Z Tokishe Sema, and was attended by DIPR officials and a host of media persons. The ‘DIPR NAGALAND’ mobile app was developed by Excellogics Tech Solutions, and can be downloaded from Google Playstore and iOS App Store.

Art Corner: Advisor for Tourism and Art & Culture, Khehovi Yepthomi inaugurated Art Corner at Kisama on December 1. Altogether there are 37 participants are participating in the competition and paintings of 98 artistes are displayed.
