Nagaland state has achieved about 93% in the implementation of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojona (PMAY)- Urban housing for all covering 27806 dwelling units out of the sanctioned 29973 dwelling units. Stating this as a pride of the state, Zhaleo Rio, IAS (Retd), Advisor to Municipal Affairs & Urban Development Department on Friday remarked that, “this is a testament to our achievement which the state is very proud of.”
Addressing the launch of the Coffee Table Book under the banner, “Transforming Lives: A Glance at PMAY (Urban) Mission in Nagaland”, he also noted that, “we are one of the highest achieving states particularly taking North East states into consideration.” Highlighting that the PMAY was launched in the year 2015 for a period up to 2022, but has been extended up to 2025, he stated that, “this housing program is to provide housing to the economically weaker section of the society or low income or middle income group.”
With about 93% of the scheme implemented, he revealed that the remaining dwelling units are either in foundation level or indo level, and few negligible percentage yet to start for technical reasons.
With only 1.5 lakhs rupees given per unit, he commended the beneficiaries for taking interest and being able to come up with affordable housing although the amount sanctioned per unit is not very high. “This is an individual led construction scheme through subsidy or credit linkage”, he also highlighted.
The Advisor further congratulated all the stakeholders at the state level including successive governments and chief secretaries, the department of Municipal Affairs, Urban Local Bodies and the Beneficiaries and everyone who participated in the PMAY Mission 1.
Mention may be made here that the PMAY- Urban is a flagship mission of the Government of India aimed at providing 'Housing for all' by 2022 when India celebrates 75 years of Independence and has been extended to 2025 for covering more prospective beneficiaries and achieving the objective of the mission.
