Nagaland activates project- ‘NEH Component for Vegetable Crops’

Dimapur, November 26 (MExN): AICRP (VC), Department of Horticulture, SASRD, NU has been awarded a new project ‘NEH Component for Vegetable Crops’ for promotional activities in relation to different vegetable crops for nutritional and economical upliftment of vegetable growers of Nagaland.

Under this project, good quality vegetable seeds of high yielding varieties are being procured from a very reputed Vegetable Institute, ICAR-IIVR, Varanasi, UP for distribution to the farmers. 

To start off its activities in Nagaland, a seed distribution programme on winter vegetables was conducted in Duncan Basti, Dimapur. 

The programme was chaired and graced by Prof Akali Sema, Dean, SASRD, NU & Incharge TSP, ICAR-AICRP (VC) and Dr Aastik Jha, Project Incharge, NEH Component for Vegetable Crops, AICRP (VC). 

The programme was attended by the group leaders of vegetable farmers from different parts of Nagaland representing KVK Zunheboto, ATMA Zunheboto, ECS Tuensang, ATMA Kiphire, Organic Home SHG, Ghile farm Niuland, Cold Mouintain Longkhum, C2N Organic Trove Peren. 

Winter vegetable seeds along with kitchen garden kits were distributed to about 700 farmers of Nagaland. 

The seed distribution programme was coordinated by Dr Moakala Changkiri, CO-Project Incharge, NEH Component for Vegetable Crops, Dr Aastik Jha, Khetoho Chophy and Thungpenthung.
