Nagaland Chief Minister Dr Neiphiu Rio today said that the Government of Nagaland has approved and notified the Nagaland Agriculture Policy 2025, providing a comprehensive and inclusive roadmap for transforming the agriculture and allied sector in the state.
“The Policy sets a clear vision for building a resilient, sustainable and prosperous agricultural economy that enhances farmers livelihoods, strengthens food and nutrition security and promote climate- resilient growth,” Dr. Rio said in Independence Day speech at the 80th Independence Day celebration at Nagaland Civil Secretariat Plaza, Kohima.
He said the agriculture department has also under the Digital Agriculture Mission, a flagship initiative aimed at building a robust farmer centric Digital Public Infrastructure, launched the Unified Digital Agriculture Ecosystem.
He said that the Department of Horticulture, under the Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture could ensure enhancement of area coverage for fruits, vegetables, spices, flowers and plantation crops by over 2800 hectare.
The proposals for establishment of two Centres of Excellence for Kiwi fruit at Pfutsero, Phek district and for Dendrobium (Orchid) at State Horticulture Nursery, Chumoukedima are under process.
Fish production increases from 9151.50 MT to 11, 158.9 MT
The Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services in partnership with local producers has been able to produce 1.6 thousand tonnes of meat from Piggery and goatery under National Livestock Mission.
On July 14, 2026, the State Government signed an MoU with Cooperi, a French pork processing company, marketing a significant step towards further modernizing the state’s piggery sector through scientific breeding and improved farming practices.
The state has also seen a significant increase in fish production under the PMMSY (Phase-I) 2020-2025, of the Fisheries Department, with the production increasing from 9151.50 MT to 11, 158.9 MT.
The 'Cluster-based Coffee Value Chain Development in Nagaland' project was launched on18th May 2026 at Tuophema in Kohima district for Arabica coffee and at Ghotovi in Niuland district for Robusta coffee, marking a major step towards strengthening Nagaland's coffee value chain and positioning the State as a premium coffee-producing hub.
Under this Rs.175 crore project, pilot coffee clusters will be developed at Tuophema and Ghotovi, which will include setting up hi-tech nurseries, post-harvest infrastructure, roasteries and branding campaign to establish 'Coffees of Nagaland' as a premium single-origin brand.
