Even as Ahthibung town under Peren district was only recently upgraded to a SDO Civil Hq, government officials visiting the town for official works and projects are facing a lot of inconvenience due to lack of a government guest house to stay in.
The only government guest house in the town remains neglected and is in delapidated condition. The guest house was constructed in the late 80s and has not seen any repair till date.
According to Chugminthang Singsong, EBRC Ahthibung, the Ahthibung Town Committee as well as other NGOs have approached the government multiple times to restore the government guest house but to no avail.
“Many a times situation arises when government officials come to the town for official duty or for some projects and they have no place to put up. Their only option is to make alternative arrangements like staying in the Church guest house and other locations,” Singsong pointed out.
There are around eight government departments in Ahthibung town. The town was upgraded to a SDO Civil HQ from EAC Hq in December 2017.
