Kohima, October 5 (MExN): Nagaland along with the rest of the States has launched the Foot and Mouth Disease – Mukt Bharat under National Animal Disease Control Programme (NADCP) on October 5. The programme was approved by the Union Cabinet on May 31 as a new Central Sector Scheme aimed to fully eradicate Foot and Mouth Disease by 2025.
A DIPR report stated that the Government of Nagaland, Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services under the aegis of the Nagaland Livestock Development Board (NLDB), Kohima along with the rest of the districts officially launched the programme by the Director, AH & Veterinary Services, Dr Budhi Lama on October 5 by tagging, vaccination, serum collection and successfully uploading in the portal.
“This activity shall continue in the State for another 45 days as a part of synchronised vaccination with sister States of NER,” the report stated.
Further, the Department of AH & Veterinary Services has appealed to all the villages, towns, wards etc to cooperate in the process of vaccination for the success of this programme in the State.
Mukt Bharat programme is the vision of our Prime Minister, Narendra Modi to declare India freedom from Foot & Mouth Disease so that Livestock are made more remunerative in terms of milk and it’s by products. Under this programme, vaccination on FMD is to be carried out in Mission Mode in all susceptible animals followed by traceability through Ear Tagging using Unique Identification Number (UID) and subsequent uploading in the NADCP portal.
