Mokokchung, Wokha to get highest rainfall
Kohima, September 7 (MExN): The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) on Monday issued a four-day weather warning for all districts, forecasting thunderstorm and lightning accompanied by varying intensities of rainfall from September 8 to 11, with Mokokchung and Wokha expected to record the highest cumulative precipitation.
According to the NSDMA advisory, Mokokchung is likely to receive 113.74 mm of rainfall during the period, closely followed by Wokha at 113.14 mm, Longleng at 101.82 mm, Tseminyu at 94.27 mm, Mon at 78.14 mm, Tuensang at 68.01 mm, and Kohima at 66.23 mm, while Dimapur and Niuland are forecast to get 65.98 mm and 63.65 mm respectively.
On September 8, moderate to heavy rain with thunderstorm and lightning is expected in Tseminyu, Wokha, and Zunheboto, while light to moderate rain with similar conditions is predicted for Chumoukedima, Dimapur, Kohima, Longleng, Mokokchung, Niuland, Noklak, Peren, Phek, Shamator, and Tuensang, and light rain for Kiphire, Meluri, and Mon.
The following day, light rain with thunderstorm and lightning is likely in Chumoukedima, Dimapur, Kohima, Longleng, Mokokchung, Niuland, Peren, Phek, Shamator, Tseminyu, Tuensang, Wokha, and Zunheboto, while Kiphire, Meluri, and Mon face only thunderstorm and lightning risk, and Noklak is expected to receive light rain.
On September 10, thunderstorm and lightning risk is forecast for Noklak, Phek, Tseminyu, and Zunheboto, with light rain in Kohima and Tuensang, light rain in Chümoukedima, Niuland and Peren, and cloudy or overcast conditions likely in Dimapur, Longleng, Mokokchung, Mon, Wokha, Kiphire, Meluri and Shamator.
The NSDMA has placed Longleng, Mokokchung, Mon, and Wokha under high alert for September 11, warning of thunderstorm and lightning with scattered heavy rain, while Tseminyu is expected to face moderate to heavy rain, Chumoukedima, Dimapur, Niuland, and Tuensang light to moderate rain, and Kohima, Noklak, Peren, Phek, and Shamator light rain, with cloudy conditions in Kiphire and Meluri and light to moderate rain in Zunheboto.
The authority has advised the public to regularly monitor updates through the Safer Nagaland mobile application and the NSDMA Weather Portal, follow official advisories, and exercise caution during thunderstorms and rainfall, while motorists have been specifically warned to be careful while travelling, especially along vulnerable and landslide-prone stretches.
