Early trends of bye-election results to 14 Southern Angami–I and 60-Pungro-Kiphire Assembly Constituency shows Independent candidates leading in both the constituencies.
According to trends and results update by the Election Commission of India, at 10:36 AM, the Independent candidate Seyievilie Peter Zashumo was ahead with 2115 votes or 58.97% of vote shares.
Ruling Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) nominee Medo Yhokha was trailing behind him with 1192 votes. Opposition Naga People’s Front’s Kikovi Kirha had garnered 263 votes as per the update.
Meanwhile, early results for the 60-Pungro-Kiphire AC showed similar trend with Independent candidate T Yangseo Sangtam surging ahead with 5284 at 10.39 AM.
Bhartiya Janata Party’s Lirimong Sangtam was at the second with 2582 votes.
The two other Independent candidates - K Shellumthong and Kiusumew Yimchunger had 670 and 602 respectively while Khaseo Anar of the Indian National Congress garnered 264.
However, the trend might reverse as counting is still continuing for both the constituency.
Counting began amid tight security from 8 AM in one room for the 22 polling stations of 14 Southern Angami-I seat and two halls for the 77 polling booths of Pungro-Kiphire assembly segment.
Counting of votes is being undertaken under SDO (C) Jakhama & Returning Officer in Kohima for 14 Southern Angami-I while it is under ADC Kiphire & Returning Officer for 60-Pungro-Kiphire A/C in Kiphire.
