Nagaland CEO informs of special drive for left-out voters

Kohima, October 15 (MExN): The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Nagaland, has informed of a special drive to ensure that “no eligible voter is left out” of the electoral roll are in progress across all Assembly constituencies in the State.

The drive is being conducted in coordination with the Election Commission of India (ECI) to facilitate the enrolment of eligible voters left out of the draft roll, it stated.

As part of the initiative, 17 District Election Officers, 44 Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), 64 Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs), 63 Additional Assistant Electoral Registration Officers, 259 Booth Level Officer (BLO) Supervisors and 2,399 BLOs have been deployed across the State.

The initiative comes as the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) enters the claims-and-objections phase, following publication of the draft electoral roll on September 20.

The period will continue until October 20. The draft roll informed that a total of 1,57,752 electors were classified under the Absent, Shifted, Dead and Duplicate (ASDD) categories.

Addressing a press conference (https://www.morungexpress.com/nagaland-now-the-test-of-sir-draft-roll) on September 21, an election official said nearly five lakh electors could face notices over discrepancies in mapping their details with the 2005 electoral roll.

However, it was clarified that failure to map a name to the 2005 roll does not automatically mean exclusion, and affected electors may establish the required linkage or apply afresh, where applicable.

Accordingly, in a press note the CEO office has urged electors to check their names in the draft roll and file claims or objections before October 20.

Form-7 may be filed to object to a proposed inclusion or seek deletion of a name from the existing electoral roll, while Form-8 is used for shifting of residence, correction of entries, replacement of the Elector Photo Identity Card (EPIC) or marking of persons with disabilities (PwD).

Meanwhile, the CEO Nagaland highlighted that voters enrolment is a year-round exercise and new/left-out voters can get name included using Form-6 anytime of the year.

Individuals requiring assistance with the electoral roll or Form-6 may contact the 1950 helpline or visit helpdesks at the offices of District Election Officers at the district level and EROs at the Assembly constituency level during office hours, it added.

The final electoral roll for Nagaland is scheduled for publication on November 22, 2026. The update comes amid scrutiny of the SIR exercise and concerns over voter deletions across the country.
