Nagaland: CGBU condemns disruptions to 4-lane works along NH 29

DIMAPUR, AUGUST 27 (MExN): The Chakhroma GBs’ Union (CGBU) has expressed dismay at reports that the construction of the 4-lane highway along NH 29 had come to a halt due to “unjustifiable actions from some antisocial elements.”

“When every citizen of our state is eagerly waiting for improvement of our roads, which is a must for development of our state, such unwanted activities from anti social and anti Naga elements is highly condemnable and should be immediately checked,” a press note from the CGBU said.

It opined that “no amount of reasoning or appeal can deter such miscreants; they should be brought down with the strictest action,” and called upon all to “remain alert to apprehend and check such unwanted situation.”

It further expressed concern at reports of “regular threats for money, theft of vehicles including excavators and assault on labourers” which took place between Chathe Bridge and Piphema, an area falling within the jurisdiction of the CGBU.

“The Union cannot remain a silent spectator to such unwarranted activity taking place within our jurisdiction. Therefore all Village Councils situated along the NH-29 are earnestly requested to provide necessary security and assistance to ensure smooth execution of works, as it is only in the interest of all Nagas that this project is coming to our land,” the union directed.

The CGBU further urged the Nagaland State Government to provide stricter security round the clock to check unwanted elements from creating hindrance to the development of the state. “The miscreants creating nuisance should be thoroughly investigated upon and dealt strictly with. At the same time the CGBU also appeal the NNPGs to check and rein in any of their cadre or anyone using their name, to create such havoc,” it appealed.

The CGBU meanwhile asked contractors to resume their works without further delay and without fear, assuring that the union would provide full support and see to it that no further disturbance is caused to the works within its jurisdiction.
