Addressing the 58th Statehood Day celebrations at the Civil Secretariat Plaza, Kohima on Tuesday, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio said that the government has continued its effort for all round progress of the state in every sphere, which includes the quest for a final solution to the long standing Naga political issue.
The Chief Minister said that the negotiations between the various Naga political groups and Government of India have seen a breakthrough with common ground being reached on various issues.
The long journey towards the final solution has passed many a stretch and milestones and “sincerely hope that this journey is finally reaching its ultimate destination,” he said.
“We expect everyone to continue with the same spirit of understanding and oneness for moving forward to the eventual solution without any delay,” he added.
Rio further reiterated the resolutions adopted during the October 15 consultative meeting with representatives of all the tribal hohos, civil society organizations, political parties, ex-parliamentarians and various public leaders, and urged the Naga political groups to honour and respect the Covenant of Reconciliation, and maintain the sanctity of non-violence in letter and spirit for a ‘shared Naga future’ as members of ‘one Naga family.’
Among others, Rio said that an appeal was also made to the negotiating groups to come together under a spirit of oneness, mutual trust and understanding with sincerity and commitment towards achieving “One Solution for One People,” in a transparent manner which is acceptable and honourable, as early as possible.
