Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio launched and flagged off 24 life support ambulances to all the districts of the state at the Secretariat Plaza on Tuesday.

The ambulances were donated by the National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) as part of their corporate social responsibility (CSR). As informed by the Principal Director, Health & Family Welfare Dr Kevichusa Medikhru, the air conditioned ambulances have oxygen, cardiac monitor, power back up, defibrillator etc.

The ambulances would be given to all the district hospitals across the state and to those Community Health Centres and Primary Health Centres with patient loads on need based.

Speaking during the launching programme, Rio appreciated the NHIDCL for their contributions, particularly at a time when the pandemic has struck the world. Their contributions to various states, particularly to the Northeastern states would bring the region closer and build a strong bond, he said.

Rio was optimistic that the ambulances would ease the work of the health workers and save many lives, particularly those living in remote areas.

To the department, he advised that the old ambulances should be maintained and utilised to serve the people living in the remotest areas.

Executive Director, NHIDCL, MS Deol in his short speech said, NHIDCL has conceived the vision to make the state of Nagaland to be amongst the best connected states of the country with the proactive support of the state.

Deol said, “based on the initiative triggered by chief minister and as a token of our continued social responsibilities towards people of Nagaland, we are delighted to contribute 24 life support ambulances in this needy times if medical emergency.”

Following a brief programme, Rio flagged the ambulances.
