MON, NOVEMBER 27 (MExN): Nagaland Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio inaugurated the State Polytechnic Institute and multi utility cum indoor badminton stadium in Aboi, Mon on November 27. A public inaugural function was held at the local ground, informed a report from the DIPR. 

The CM informed that the academic programme of the polytechnic will commence from the 2021-2022 session. Rio, while stating that “Naga society is a very young civilization,” added that efforts are being made to give priority to ‘backward areas.’ He hoped to make sure that the people taste the fruit of development. 

The Chief Minister also encouraged the people to preserve indigenous trees as they are perishing. He further urged the officers to be more dedicated in their duties and encouraged them to multi-task in whatever field they can to contribute to the people.

Deputy Chief Minister, Y Patton meanwhile stated that the CM is a “champion of development,” adding that “for the first time in Nagaland, the Chief Minister and his cabinet colleagues have had five inaugural functions in a day in Mon district.”

Minister for Higher and Technical Education, Temjen Imna Along also thanked the government and the people of Aboi for their relentless effort which made the State polytechnic institute and multi utility cum indoor stadium a reality.

Manpon Konyak, Convener of Aboi District Demand Committee shared the grievances faced by the people in the area. He pointed to issues including the condition of health facilities in Aboi. 

A brief history of the multi utility cum indoor badminton stadium project was given by N Bongkhao Konyak, Advisor, DUDA. He informed that the estimated cost of the stadium was Rs 80 lakhs. The project started in 2015-16 funded by DUDA through the Border Area Development Programme and Under Development Areas programme. The project was constructed by M/s Affluent Enterprises and was successfully completed during 2017- 18.

The inaugural program was held in compliance with COVID-19 SOPs. The programme was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Mon, Thavaseelan K, IAS. Rev T Wano, Missionary invoked God’s presence. KU Advisor (Aboi Unit), Maopong delivered the welcome address. There was also an exhibition badminton match in which the Chief Minister took part. A cultural dance by the Upper Range Women and KNSK, Aboi Town was another highlight of the event.
