National media oblivious to the calamity, says CM
Kohima, August 1 (MExN): Chief Minister of Nagaland, Neiphiu Rio, has written to the Prime Minister of India requesting immediate interim Central assistance and intervention to rescue the State from the situation of natural calamity it is presently undergoing.
With heavy rainfall hitting Nagaland, “National and State highways have been cut off and many district connectivity roads have become unmotorable. Road communication and connectivity have been adversely impacted and even the NH 29 that connects to Manipur has been cut off for several days now,” stated the CM in the letter to the PM highlighting other infrastructural damage as well as the slowly depleting stocks of essential commodities in the landlocked state with only one rail head, one airport and one helicopter in service.
With the national media oblivious to the calamity, the CM hoped that at least the PM will take note of the natural disaster unfurling in Nagaland State that has led to the loss of lives, displacement of families, damage to property. While the Government of Nagaland’s agencies are making all efforts possible, the CM acknowledged that it is citizens who have come out to assist and support the government agencies in combating the calamities. However, “under the given circumstances and given the magnitude of the calamities, the State Government is unable to address the challenges due to lack of resources, absence of adequate machineries and equipment and poor connectivity amongst other inadequacies.”
