Against the backdrop of Opposition Naga Peoples Front (NPF) asking for rollback on the new tax hikes on petrol, diesel and petroleum products, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has said that the hikes were ‘normal’ and pointed out that fuel prices in Nagaland are lower than that of neighbouring states.
Addressing the media on the sidelines of a programme at Chiephobozou today, the Chief Minister chose to simply state that “it is the duty of the opposition to keep on barking” when enquired about the NPF party’s demand for a rollback on the hikes.
With the recent announcement that Union Home Minister Amit Shah would discuss the Naga political issue with stakeholders in Manipur, when enquired if the state government would reach out to the leaders in Manipur, Rio said, “We are in touch, but at this level, it needs some discussion.”
Further, on being asked whether there is an urgent need for all the concerned state Chief Ministers to have a meeting before any final settlement is concluded, he remarked “If that is necessary we may do so under the guidance of the Union Home Minister.”
