Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio today took charge as chairman of North Eastern Regional Power Committee (NERPC).
While Rio assumed the charge on March 16, 2020, the formal handing and taking over of charge from former chairman James Sangma, Minister of Power, Meghalaya was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
NERPC is the highest forum which co-ordinates various issues relating to power sector of all the constituent states of the North East which includes Transmission and Generation Utilities.
It is also responsible for monitoring of Energy Flow and enforcement of Grid Discipline.
The tenure of the Chairmanship of the NERPC is held on a one year rotational basis of Power Ministers from among the north eastern states.
Meanwhile, Rio will address the second day of 21st meetings of Technical Coordination Committee (TCC) and NERPC on February 4 at Hotel Vivor, Kohima at 10:30 am. Power ministers of North Eastern Region will deliver speeches during the meeting. Keynote address will be delivered by A K Thakur, IES, Member Secretary NERPC.
