Nagaland COVID-19 cases cross 7K mark

Two weeks since the State’s COVID-19 tally crossed 6000, the number of infections has again crossed another grim milestone.

On Sunday, there were 70 new COVID-19 cases in Nagaland taking the tally to 7019. Dimapur continued to report the highest number of cases among the districts with 51 on October 11. Kohima had 13 new cases while Peren had 2 cases.

Tuensang, Mon, Longleng and Mokokchung reported one new case each, according to an update from State Health Minister S Pangnyu Phom.

Meanwhile, 49 recoveries were also reported on Sunday, with 33 recoveries in Dimapur, 15 in Kohima and 1 in Tuensang.

As per the Nagaland COVID-19 bulletin issued by the State Health and Family Welfare department, the total number of recoveries in the State was 5684. Active cases till date were 1253.

The State has also registered 12 COVID-19 deaths, 5 ‘not COVID related’ deaths while 6 deaths are currently under investigation according to the bulletin. 59 cases have ‘migrated’ from the state. 

A look at the overall case trajectory informed that it took 140 days to reach the 7000-mark, since the official detection of the first positive case on May 25. 

While it took 57 days to cross the 1000-mark on July 20, positivity surged thereafter and it took just 14 days to cross 2000 cases on August 3 and seven days to reach the 3000-threshold on August 10.

There was a dip in cases in the month of August and reporting an average of 25 cases a day, the State took 22 days to cross the 4000-mark on September 1. 

However, in September, there was another surge and it took 11 days to reach the 5000-mark on September 12. 17 days later, the State’s tally of COVID-19 cases crossed the 6000-mark on September 29. It took 11 days to cross the 7000-mark thereafter.
