Kohima, February 11 (MExN): Both the Department of Labour and Department of Employment, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship are very important machineries of the State Government, the Chief Secretary (CS) of Nagaland, J Alam, IAS stated and called on the departments to be automated as much as possible so as to make the workflow of public offices more efficient. 

The CS was addressing the departmental review meeting with both the departments at the Chief Secretary’s Conference Hall, Kohima on February 11, stated a DIPR report. This is the second departmental review meeting called by the Chief Secretary with the purpose to discuss the activities and issues faced by the various departments.  

Stating that all registrations, renewals and payments should be done online for the benefit of the youth, shop owners and business establishments, the CS instructed both the departments to develop the necessary software and to go online at the earliest. He directed the departments to consult with the IT&C department in the matter. 

The Department of labour, in a presentation, stated that the department was created to safeguard the rights and interests of the workers both in organized and un-organized sectors by effective implementation of the various provisions under both Central and State Labour Enactments. Various welfare schemes and programmes of the State and Central Governments are being implementing. Nagaland Building and Other Construction Workers’ Welfare Board (NBOCW) was on such scheme where around 1,000 youth across the State have been trained so as to encouraging them to take up construction trade as their fulltime career, it stated. 

The Department of Employment, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship in their presentation stated that under Skills Acquisition & Knowledge Awareness for Livelihood Promotion (SANKALP) one entrepreneurs development centre on pilot  at Government ITI Complex, Kohima has been set up in collaboration with Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE), Guwahati as the knowledge and implementation partner with the Primary objective to train and promote local entrepreneurs and create a support mechanism to the enterprising youth to succeed and become job creators. The Department highlighted that there were 9 Industrial Training Institutes across the State imparting various trades. Other welfare programme and courses undertaken by the department were also highlighted in the presentation.    

Both department officials shared problems and issues pertaining to the implementation of schemes and projects.
