Nagaland DES conducts training on revamped CRS ORGI Portal

The Directorate of Economics & Statistics (DES), Nagaland today conducted Training of Trainers (ToTs) on Revamped Civil Registration System, Office of the Registrar General of India (CRS ORGI) Portal at the conference hall of the directorate, Kohima.

Addressing the inaugural session, DES Director Neidilhou Keditsu said that the birth and death certificates are the two important documents that define the life of an individual and are also the primary source of data for the population of the state.

He informed that the department has implemented the online registration of births and deaths since 2022 and completed the filing of online registration of births and deaths for all the 1471 registrars in the state, which includes the districts and villages.

Civil registration is a continuous, permanent and compulsory recording of births and deaths, he said, adding that the department has implemented the Registration of Births and Deaths Act 1969 since 1971 in the state and the department has done well over the years.

He expressed happiness that the ORGI has come up with the new portal for better delivery of services digitally.

The portal is being developed by the ORGI and has been implemented all over the country while Nagaland has started the use of the portal to issue the births and deaths certificate, he said.

Informing that ORGI has developed uniform software for registration of births and deaths and issuance of certificate throughout the country, Keditsu said the certificate issued through the portal is accessible at crsorgi.gov.in with a unique registration number throughout the country.

The Director requested the District Registrars to learn properly about the revamped portal to provide better service to the people of Nagaland without hindrance. He said that today’s training is for the registrars of the districts, who would go back and train the village level registrars in the respective district.

The resource persons for the training were Senior Research Officers from ORGI Renu Shekhawat and Vimal Kaul who dwelled on the topics Reporting and Registration of Birth – Registrar <21 days, 22-30 days, 31 days-1 year, beyond 1 year, digitization of old records etc.

Economics & Statistics Officer Chonbeni Patton chaired the programme.
