Stakeholders discuss live entertainment economy framework for State
Kohima, September 15 (MExN): Positioning Nagaland as an entertainment hub in the Northeast, attracting major national and international events, and developing “Nagaland Live” as a distinctive brand have been identified as short-term objectives for the State's emerging live entertainment sector.
The objectives were outlined by LiveNow Director Atsunglir Jamir during a meeting to discuss the development of a, held at the Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR), Kohima, on September 15.
According to a DIPR report, the meeting discussed the potential of the live entertainment sector to contribute to economic growth, employment and livelihood generation in the State.
Charing the meeting, Secretary, Information and Public Relations (IPR), Orenthung Lotha highlighted the growing importance of the sector and said live entertainment should be recognised not merely as an avenue for cultural expression and recreation, but also as a potential economic sector capable of generating revenue, creating employment and stimulating allied industries.
He stressed the need to develop mechanisms to monetise events in the State and ensure that large-scale events generate sustainable economic returns for local stakeholders while contributing to the State economy.
Lotha noted that Nagaland's rich cultural heritage, musical talent, creative community and youth population could provide a foundation for developing a robust live entertainment ecosystem.
He also emphasised the importance of inter-departmental coordination and collaboration, stating that hosting major national and international events would require the collective efforts of various line departments and stakeholders.
Director, IPR, Dzüvinuo Theünuo, expressed appreciation for having LiveNow onboard as consultants for the development of the Live Entertainment Economy Framework for the State.
Meanwhile, Jamir, in his presentation, outlined the initial study, research findings and observations concerning the existing landscape and potential of the live entertainment sector in Nagaland. He highlighted its potential economic impact in areas including skill development, employment generation, entrepreneurship and tourism promotion.
He said a vibrant live entertainment ecosystem could create opportunities for local artists, performers, event professionals, technicians, production crews and other associated service providers, thereby generating employment and livelihood opportunities for the youth.
Jamir also underscored the need to strengthen and upgrade existing infrastructure and facilities to enable Nagaland to host events of national and international standards.
This, he said, could enhance the State's capacity to attract major events while contributing to its potential as a destination for entertainment, cultural and experiential tourism.
As per the report, the meeting concluded with discussions on the preliminary findings and recommendations of the inception study, with further consultations with relevant stakeholders and line departments proposed towards developing a comprehensive and actionable Live Entertainment Economy Framework for Nagaland.
LiveNow has been appointed as consultants for developing the framework.
The consultancy brings experience in developing models for the growth of the live entertainment sector and is expected to assist the State in formulating a framework tailored to Nagaland's cultural and economic context, it added.
