Minister for School Education Imkong L. Imchen today maintained that the state was facing acute shortage of Hindi teachers at present.

The State government has introduced Hindi subject from Class IV from this academic year in the government schools and accordingly text books have been distributed to the students. However, several institutions have expressed their  grievance for non-posting of Hindi teachers to teach the related subjects. Talking to media persons, the minister stated that the state government has demanded from the  centre sanctioning of 1400 Hindi teachers posts.

On being asked whether the government was making any arrangement for those institutions where Hindi teachers are not posted, the minister said that most of the schools have made local arrangements for that.

He termed such arrangements as “a good sign” with the arrival of communitisation concept in the state.

Imchen said that the NPSC has conducted examinations for 200 posts of Hindi teachers in the state. He, however expressed surprise that that only 40 have been qualified.  “I cannot do anything since they cannot qualify, “he remarked.
