Tuensang, August 2 (MExN): In order to assess the intensity of damage caused by the recent flash flood occurred on July 29 in Tuensang district the staffs of Agriculture Department Tuensang conducted a field visit for spot verification to major belt areas of paddy terrace field where damage was reported to be severe.
The inspection conducted on August 2, covered major paddy growing areas covering under Sangsangyo Block where 9 to 10 villages were severely affected.
A press release reported here that a total of more than 200 families were affected. All the paddy terrace fields, irrigation channels, fisheries ponds, water harvesting structures, field houses was completely washed off. The existing fields were also completely cut off with irrigation source for which only a low harvest is expected this year.
While interacting with the affected farmers, they said that due to the recent incident they are now in huge dilemma as they are solely dependent on their field for meeting all their ends needs. Some villages under Noksen Block were also reported to be affected due to heavy downpour and landslides.
The department has extended appreciation to the Villages Councils under Sangsangyu Block for their sincere support, Co-operation for materializing the inspection programme successfully. The department further urges the Government and the concern District Administration for extending emergency relief and help to the affected farmers on special priority.
