The National Commission for Women (NCW) in collaboration with Nagaland State Commission for Women (NSCW) & Mission Shakti, Social Welfare Department, Nagaland, organised a training programme for functionaries of Mission Shakti cum observance of World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, which falls on July 30.
Addressing the staff at SIRD Conference Hall, Kohima, Limawabang Jamir, Secretary & AHoD, Social Welfare Department, Nagaland said that World Day against Trafficking in Persons is an annual global event to raise awareness on the issue, protect victims’ rights, and stop organized crime.
“There are growing forms of trafficking in persons for forced criminality, closely intertwined with cybercrime, financial fraud, money-laundering, for commercial sexual activities and forced labour,” he said.
Jamir said that Nagaland is a key point of origin, transit route, and destination for human trafficking. In the past years, human trafficking in the state primarily manifested as child domestic labour, commercial sex trafficking and illegal or false child adoptions disguised as promises of free education,” Jamir said and urged all the stakeholders to create awareness about these pertinent issues and enable the community, especially vulnerable women and children to take precautions.
Jamir also acknowledged the services being provided by Mission Shakti centres in the state, who have been actively working to ensure the safety and security of women.
He said that Women Helpline-181 (Women & Child Development Control Room) was up in Kohima including Shakhi-One Stop Centres in 17 districts and Shakti Sadans in 6 districts of Nagaland.
In the last 3 months of this current financial year (from April - June 2026), the One Stop Centres have catered to 125 cases of gender based violence, and Women Helpline-181 has catered to 53 cases of gender based violence and information seeking calls, he said.
He said that Shakti Sadans are providing shelter to very critical cases including POSCO cases, Domestic violence and many other vulnerable women in distress situation.
He appreciated all the teams for their dedicated services and commitment to their respective responsibilities despite various challenges. He said that the department is taking up the matter with the Ministry for early release of pending honorarium to staff under Mission Shakti.
