Nagaland Government comes out with ‘price regulations’ for Hornbill Festival

In a welcome move, the Government of Nagaland has published a document called ‘Price Regulations,’ listing the rates of various items at the upcoming 20th Hornbill Festival scheduled from December 1-10. 


According to the document, different types of soups and noodles are fixed between Rs. 80-130 according to the list. 
For ‘meals and meal combos,’ the rates are kept below Rs 300, and ranges from Rs 70-300. The most expensive item on the list is smoked pork at Rs 300. 


The rates for beverages, including local ‘rice beer,’ has also been fixed below Rs 80, while soft drinks and packed snacks are to be sold as per the maximum retail price (MRP).  


Meanwhile, the price of spices, fruits and essential commodities also come under the ‘price regulations’ under various rates. For instance, the price of ‘Dry King Chilli,’ the most expensive items in the category, is fixed at Rs 1200 while for fresh King Chilli, it is Rs 280. 


The price regulations also apply for taxi-hire charges for conveyance during the festival.  The rate from Dimapur- Kohima (per passenger) is fixed at Rs 300. 


While the taxi-fare from Kohima Town to Kisama is fixed at 300, it would cost Rs 50 less from BOC (Rs 250) while those taking from High School Junction have to shell out Rs 100 extra (Rs 400).


Fares within Kohima town are fixed at Rs 25 per passenger. 


According to the list, all prices of handicraft, art paintings, and flowers will be charged as per the prevailing rates. 
Items at Night Bazaar will also be charged as per Kohima Municipal Council’s market rates. 


 “This is for strict compliance. Failing to adhere to the price regulation will result in termination/cancelation of stall permit,” stated the Pricing Committee Members (PCM). 


Among others, the PCM includes representative from Transport, Art & Culture, Agriculture, Tourism, KMC, KCCI, Horticulture and IT&C and Power.
