Nagaland Governor, others extend Mongmong greetings

Dimapur, September 2 (MExN): Nagaland Governor RN Ravi on Thursday led others in extending Mongmong greetings to the people of Nagaland in general, and the Sangtam community in particular. 

One of the most important festivals of the Sangtams,  “Mongmong” meaning "Togetherness Forever" is celebrated in the first week of September and stretches over six days.

“On this auspicious occasion, I wish you all good health, happiness and prosperity” Governor RN Ravi stated in his greetings. 

“This beautiful festival is a celebration for good harvest after all the hardwork in the field. Mongmong is also a time of togetherness, sharing of produce and forgiveness,” he said. 

Sanitation and repairment of public infrastructure are carried out by the villagers during this time and traditional rituals performed reflect the importance of the villagers to live in harmony with the environment, he added. “Love, care and unity are the wonderful essence of this festival.”

He further urged for celebrating the festival while observing Covid-19 protocols.

Y Patton: Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister,  Y Patton also extended his Mongmong greetings to the Sangtam community  
This festival marks 'togetherness forever 'of the people and the six days celebrations has been carried down for centuries and it is believed that the young men and women will keep this tradition alive, he stated. 

On behalf of the state BJP legislators, Patton also conveyed Mongmong greetings to the Sangtams. 

NSCN (R): The NSCN (Reformation) also conveyed its warm greetings on occasion of Mongmong festival.

Mongmong is one of the most important festival of the Sangtam tribe and the main reason to celebrating this festival is to worship the deity of the house and three cooking stones in the fire place, the NSCN (R) stated in a press release from its MIP. 

“The NSCN (R) invokes God's blessings to be upon our Sangtam brothers and sisters and may this festival bring prosperity and good tidings to the Sangtam people,” it added.
