Advisor for School Education, KT Sukhalu, IAS (retd) today admitted that the department was grappling with excess teachers and working on rationalization of teachers.
The rationalization would be done stage wise and the department would ensure that all government schools have the right number of teachers, he said.
Speaking as the special guest during the inaugural progamme for upgradation of Government Middle School, Thilixu to Government High School on Tuesday, Sukhalu said rationalization would be done first for Math and Science teachers and Post Graduate Teachers as well. He lamented that every teacher wanted to be posted in urban areas, especially Dimapur.
Sukahlu also pointed out the irony of people seeking only government jobs and yet when they finally get it they do not attend to duties and instead keep proxy. In this, the Advisor appealed to all School Management Committees (SMC), elders of villages and colonies to ensure that there was no compromise of proxy teachers in their respective jurisdiction.
“Teachers do not really teach and so I appeal all SMCs and area leaders to see that proxy teachers are not allowed and the right teachers dutifully discharge their duties. We are only fooling ourselves by keeping proxy teachers thereby creating a generation of unemployable youth,” he added. He also harped on the need to evaluate the knowledge of the teachers.
Even as 22 government schools drew nil results during the recently declared HSLC exam, Sukhalu said the government would continue to strive towards better performance of the schools.
He said the GHS Thilixu had come a long way to get the school upgraded and thanked the Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio who is also the Chairman of State Level Education Committee for approving the upgradation. The former bureaucrat turned politician took note of the community support towards the GHS Thilixu and appealed for continued support for the school to grow from strength to strength.
He further encouraged the students to be focused on what they want to become in life.
DEO Dimapur, R. Amongla Jamir appealed to the village community to extend their support to the school and maintain good relationship.
SMC Chairman, Pucakhu Sema in his welcome address also read out a memorandum to the Advisor, School Education appealing for construction of the school building.
The inaugural programme was attended by NPF MLAs Er.Picto Shohe and Y. Vikheho Swu among a host of government officials and village leaders.
