Kohima, December 3 (MExN): The Department of Youth Resources & Sports today honoured the triumphant Nagaland Taekwondo players who participated in the recently held Indo-Nepal International Taekwondo Championship from November 27 and 28 at New Delhi.

A programme in their hounour was held at the Indira Gandhi Stadium Kohima on Friday evening. The Nagaland Taekwondo players won 18 medals (9 Gold, 7 Silver and 2 bronze).

Team coach Visabiu Peseyie, State Taekwondo Coach, DYRS introducing the players said 20 boys from Taekwondo Sports academy participated in different categories of pewee, sub-junior, cadet, junior, senior.

The team went on to win 18 medals in the international championship and produced one of its best record with the highest gold medal tally among the 38 participating teams. 

DYRS Secretary, Wezope Kenye in his address acknowledged the achievement of the young players for bringing laurel to the state.  Adding that the department was doing its best, Kenye said the young players have shown the way. 

DYRS Director, Akumla Chuba while congratulating the players said their hard work and dedication has finally paid off and hoped they can keep the momentum and achieve more medals for the state in the future. 

The state team who participated in the championship was led by coach Visabiu Peseyie, State Taekwondo Coach, Department of Youth Resources and Sports and Keneingulie Khezhie as team manager.
