Dimapur, August 18 (MExN): The government of Nagaland has directed the department of School Education and all deputy commissioners to strictly ensure clean and potable drinking water in all school premises, as decreed by the Supreme Court on August 9. Authorities of all government and government aided schools in Nagaland are directed to ‘ensure availability’ of clean and potable drinking water in school premises by means of water filters or water pitchers from where students can have clean drinking water during school hours.
Chief Secretary of Nagaland Lalthara issued a faxed letter today ordering the director of School Education and all the deputy commissioners of the districts to see that the facility is provided within one week without fail. The compliance must be sent in confirmation by the respective deputy commissioners to the director of School Education, the letter said.
The chief secretary also said regular water supply facilities and their cost estimates may be sent by the school authorities in concern to the director of School Education wherever water facilities are not available. “This instruction should be passed onto all schools within your jurisdiction within the shortest possible time,” the letter added.
