34 Guides and 21 Scouts from Kohima, Mokokchung and Dimapur were awarded the Rajya Puraskar/Governor's award 2018 during the award ceremony of the Nagaland State Bharat Scout & Guides (NSBSG) held on August 7 at Durbar Hall, Raj Bhavan.
The award ceremony was graced by Governor PB Acharya, who is also the Chief Patron of the NSBSG, and his lady wife, along with Er Zale Neikha, Advisor, Youth Resources & Sports and President of the NSBSG.
Sharing a brief history of the Bharat Scouts and Guides formed in 1907 by Lord Baden Powell, Er. Zale Neikha stated that the purpose of the movement is to develop young people as responsible citizens and as members of the local, national and international communities.
While congratulating the awardees of the Governor's award which is the highest level of award for Scouts and Guides in the State after attaining several levels of skills, Neikha also encouraged them to aspire for the President's award which is the highest award in the country.
“Hospitality is an innate trait which we have received from our forefathers and with which I am sure will add surplus to any Naga Scout and Guide to earn a name in the reach for the President's award if adhered to with the principles of Bharat Scouts and Guides. I am hoping to see the growth of this international movement in our state which will produce respectable, humble and strong willed personalities to take our people forward,” stated Er. Zale Neikha.
Delivering a speech on empowerment and service to society, Governor PB Acharya today stated that receiving education to earn a degree should not be the end goal, instead empowering oneself through education to serve the society should be the goal. Likewise, the Governing viewed that the Bharat Scouts and Guides should join the movement with the objective to serve the people.
“All of us, regardless of the religion, state or sect we belong to, should be above all, human beings,” said Acharya adding that empowerment must enlighten a person to be more humane. “Empowerment of a society is the foundation of the development of the State,” remarked Acharya.
The 34 Guides and 21 Scouts were selected after undergoing a series of tests and skills at the State level. “It gives a sense of satisfaction that a person is well trained and is prepared to face life with self reliance, self-dependability, and confidence of handling situation that may come their way,” stated the NSBSG.
