DIMAPUR, AUGUST 23 (MExN): Lok Sabha Member of Parliament from Nagaland Wangyuh Konyak has expressed optimism over the ceasefire extension between the Government of India and the various groups and pointed out that peace was prevailing in Nagaland and that apart from sporadic violence, no major incident had taken place. Wangyuh said this during his presentation on the floor of the Los Sabha. The lone Lok Sabha MP from Nagaland also pointed out that Nagaland had become a safe place and the common man was slowly getting a sense of security and their confidence growing.
The MP also said that due to this present scenario, social organizations and apex tribal organizations had taken a front seat to negotiate for peace and also imbibed in their communities that without some sort of compromise and forgiveness, Nagas do not have a future. “The tourist flow is increasing more as the days go by and many multi-national, central agencies, firms and companies are investing in the market, thus improving the economy of the State”, Wangyuh stated and pointed out that this was due to the policy of the DAN government’s equi-closeness policy and the commitment and diligence of the ruling DAN government.
“Previous governments have come and gone, but none had even come close to what the DAN ministry has achieved and that too, in such a short span of time and there will be many more achievements and success in the near future”, the MP stated.
Wangyuh also made a mention of the Consultative Committee on Peace formed and pointed out that it has been “interacting with all factions” to work out an amicable understanding between the state government and the various factions.
The MP from Nagaland also mentioned that the state government was acting as a felicitator as per their pre-poll promise.
On the peace process, Wangyuh informed the house that the NSCN (IM) had submitted their proposal to the Indian government and that the ball was now in the court of the latter. “And they should reciprocate and fully utilize this scenario, for a long lasting peace”, Wangyuh stated.
The MP from Nagaland urged the Indian government to expedite the dialogue in a serious manner and solve the vexed Naga problem at the earliest and that the problem should be solved honorably and also be acceptable to both the parties.
