Kohima, May 24 (MExN): An expert team said that Nagaland has no reason to panic concerning malaria. “In this month long exercise, the expert team came to the conclusion that as of now, Nagaland has no reason to panic concerning malaria. In the same effort, the Zonal Malaria Officer at Mokokchung also conducted several mass contact camps eventually coming to the same conclusion,” said Dr. R. Rose Chakhesang, State Programme Office, National Vector Borne Diseases Control Programme, Nagaland in a release.
Meanwhile, with the monsoon season slowly touching heights , the department once again appealed to the public to be vigil and co-operate with the field workers.
Earlier, in an effort to control and prevent a malaria epidemic in the state, the civil surgeon Dimapur Dr. Lhouvi Nakro directed the Malaria Epidemic Control Squad comprising of Zonal malaria Office, Assistant Director Urban Malaria Scheme,
Entomologist, local medical officers, lab technicians and surveillance workers to conduct medical camps in the areas of adjoining Assam.
In the process six medical camps were conducted, each camp covering three to four villagers.
The town and villages covered are- Aoyimkum and Senjun, Bade, Doyapur, Hukai Niuland, Nitozu Niuland and Sangtamtilla. Altogether 423 fever cases were screened, of which only three were found to be positive.
This exercise has been carried out as a precautionary step owing to reports of the malaria epidemic in Assam.
Talks on relevant topics such as – importance of blood screening, use of bed nets, responsibilities of drug distribution centre holders etc. were also conducted in an effort to educate and enlighten the public, Dr. R. Rose Chakhesang said.
