Nagaland holds State funeral for Temjen Toy

The State Government accorded a befitting and grand state funeral to late Temjen Toy, Chief Secretary, Nagaland, in the afternoon at the Chief Secretary official residence in Kohima.

Toy, who breathed his last in Kohima on January 28, was laid to rest at the residence of his parents in AG Colony, Kohima.

With thousands of mourners in attendance, late Temjen’s father, Lanu Toy celebrated the exemplary journey of his son saying that the process of the treatment and the journey all went on the right way. "He trusted in God's ultimate plan and surrendered to his will, Lanu said. 

During his time of treatment, God gave him and all members of the family wonderful opportunities to spend the last months in a memorable and special way. He was always cheerful and gave them hope in much more than the family as attendants could give him. His unwavering spirit and hope lifted us. That was the kind of person he was, late Temjen’s father said. 

Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio said Toy was one of finest officers Nagaland had. "Humble, upright, dedicated, cheerful, dedicated, lovable, and down to earth person. As an officer, he was responsible for shaping many policies n the state through practical inputs, out-of-the-box approaches, balanced view and judgment and mature wisdom and deep insights.

He excelled in his career and displayed genuine concerns and love for his colleagues,” the CM described the late bureaucrat. 

Recalling the last days of Toy, he said that even after he was diagnosed with cancer, Toy had the courage and hope saying, "It should be alright."

Noting that he still had so much to contribute to the Naga society and keeping in mind the crucial juncture of the journey, he said the loss was irreparable. He gave us so much hope till the end that he also returned to office on January 18, the CM added.

Speaking on behalf of the IAS Association, Sentiyanger Imchen called him ‘a friend, philosopher and guide’. His career spanning to nearly 3 decades saw him heading at the district level and playing key roles in different departments.

ecause of his administrative acumen, he played a pivotal role during the COVID-19 Pandemic, Imchen added. 

Ao Senden remembered Toy as one of the few persons who rose to highest bureaucratic positions and said that his personality and credits are too numerous to recount, adding that personalities of his stature come once in a lifetime.

Eulogies were delivered by IAS Association, Nagaland, Ao Senden, Kohima Aor Telongjem and close friends in the profession. The programme was chaired by J Alam, IAS.  Earlier, guard of honor ceremony was also held. 

T W Yamyap, State Chaplain and Rev Sentisashi, Senior Pastor, Kohima Ao Baptist Arogo pronounced the invocation and benediction respectively.

Meanwhile, an obituary programme in honour of late Temjen Toy was also held at Longdon Baptist Church, Noklak on January 29.

According to a DIPR report, the programme was attended by District Administration, departmental officers, civil societies and Churches in Noklak.
