Nagaland joins International Day of Yoga 2022

Nagaland today joined the rest of the world in observing International Day of Yoga 2022 under the theme “Yoga for Humanity.’ Through this platform, the participants have taken oath that “I commit, to make myself into a healthy, peaceful, joyful and living human being.”

“Through every action of mine, I will strive to create a peaceful and loving atmosphere around me. I strive to break the limitations of who I am right now and include the entire world as my own. I recognize the kinship of my own life with every other life. I recognize the unity of all there is,” stated the oath taken by the participants at the programme.

Gracing the main programme for the state of Nagaland at Naga Heritage Village, Kisama, near Kohima, Kaushal Kishore, Union Minister of State for Housing & Urban Affair, Government of India said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has stressed on the need for all to be part of Yoga as it helps better health, mental wellbeing and peace.

Yoga is like an insurance for all, the Union Minister said. He called upon the people to be part of Yoga to remain healthy.

Also speaking on the occasion, Nagaland Health & Family Welfare Minister, S Pangnyu Phom maintained that that Yoga has many health benefits for which people must make it an instrument to help grow and keep check one’s health system.

He said that Yoga is playing an important role in the daily life of every individual “by putting it into practical, it is providing physical health, mental health and spiritual health to the mankind.”

He appealed the people to inculcate and imbibe to practice Yoga for healthier life. Pangnyu also maintained that Yoga provide calm and peaceful mind and give relaxation to the whole body, adding “It will help one to stay strong and energetic. Therefore, let us all keep this in our mind and put into practice for our own good and betterment.”

The programme witnessed live screening address by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Earlier, welcome address was delivered by Nagaland’s urban development and municipal affairs advisor Dr Neikiesalie (Nicky) Kire while Common Yoga Protocol was led by Patanjali Yog Samity, Kohima.

The programme was organized by Directorate of Health & Family Welfare, Nagaland in association with CPWD under the Ministry of Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs, New Delhi.

Livingstone Foundation Society (LFS) observed the International Day of Yoga with a host of activities at Livingstone Foundation International (LFI). On June 16 and 17, competitions on fine arts, essay writing, poster making and speech were conducted for the students and mentors of LFI. A seminar on the benefits of yoga was conducted by Orentsani Kikon, Professional Certified Yoga Trainer, President of Nagaland Yogasana Sports Association & Brand Ambassador of Nagaland for NEB Sports & CYRUNS on June 20. 173 Bn CRPF organized a yoga event at its Battalion Headquarters, near Airfield, Dimapur with the theme ‘Yoga for Humanity’ on June 21. The International Day of Yoga was observed at Multipurpose Indoor Stadium, Mokokchung on June 21.
