Nagaland State’s capital Kohima occupied bottom side of both Ease of Living Index (EoLI) 2020 and the Municipal Performance Index (MPI) 2020 released on March 4.
Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) Hardeep Singh Puri announced the release of the final rankings of the EoLI 2020 and the MPI 2020 at an online event in New Delhi on Thursday.
As per the Dashboard of City Rankings 2020 maintained by MoHUA, Kohima was ranked 49th in the EoLI 2020, out of list of 62 cities in Less than Million category with a score of 49.87.
The overall average in the category was 52.18.
However, in the MPI parameters, Kohima Municipal Corporation’s position was at the top bottom-three.
With a lowly score of 24.38, Kohima was slotted at 58 out of 60 cities in the ‘Less than Million category.’
Meghalaya’s capital Shillong was at the bottom with 12.17 followed by Manipur’s capital Imphal at 59th with a score of 22.30.
In Pillar wise performance under MPI, KMC scored the highest in Technology and was ranked 36th. However, its performances in other pillars were low ranking 58th in services, 54th in finance, 60th planning and 46th governance.
In EoLI, while the Citizen Perception Survey was high for KMC and ranked at 27th out of 62 Urban Local Bodies, , it scored lowly in quality of life (40), economic ability (62) and sustainability (47).
National Rankings
According to MoHUA release via PIB, a total of 111 cities participated in the EoLI 2020 assessment exercise conducted in 2020 and they were further categorised into Million+ populated cities and Less than Million populated cites along with all the cities under the Smart Cities Programme.
Bengaluru emerged as the top performer in the Million+ category, followed by Pune, Ahmedabad, Chennai, Surat, Navi Mumbai, Coimbatore, Vadodara, Indore, and Greater Mumbai.
In the Less than Million category, Shimla was ranked the highest in ease of living, followed by Bhubaneshwar, Silvassa, Kakinada, Salem, Vellore, Gandhinagar, Gurugram, Davangere, and Tiruchirappalli
Similarly in the MPI 2020, Indore emerged as the highest ranked municipality, followed by Surat and Bhopal.
In the Less than Million category, New Delhi Municipal Council has emerged as the leader, followed by Tirupati and Gandhinagar.
