Nagaland: Krishi Vigyan Kendra Zunheboto celebrates World Soil Day

Zunheboto, December 7 (MExN): Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Zunheboto celebrated World Soil Health Day with the theme ‘Keep soil alive, protect soil diversity’ on December 5 at KVK Lumami office, Nagaland University along with the State Bank of India (SBI), Mokokchung. According to a press release from Sr Scientist and Head, KVK Zunheboto, Dr Rakesh Kumar Chaurasia the event began with a welcome address by Dr Visakho Shunyu, ACTO, Agronomy who spoke about the importance of the day.

Dr Chaurasia spoke on the importance of soil testing and measures to be taken in order to keep the soil alive and preserve soil biodiversity. Chief Manager, District sales hub Chinlianthang Ngaihte from SBI Mokokchung  gave advice regarding the different schemes available for farmers.

A total of 500 soil health cards were supposed to be provided to different villages of 3 blocks during the event but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, only a small group of farmers from Lumami village were able to attend.
