Nagaland: Man gets 2 year sentence for sexual harassment of minor

Phek, June 27 (MExN): A 38-year-old man has been sentenced to two years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 3000 under section 12 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, for sexually harassing a minor.


Special Judge, POCSO Act, and District and Session Judge, Phek, Mezivolu T Therieh, sentenced the accused, Chichu Pfithu, after he was found guilty of sexual harassment on his stepdaughter who is a minor, according to a press release from Public Prosecutor Samuel Ritse. The judgment was passed on June 25 as per the court order.


The accused Pfithu, a resident of Meluri town, was charged for committing rape on the minor and attempt to murder his wife; however he was acquitted of these charges due to insufficient evidence, the release stated. The accused was found guilty of sexual harassment on the minor U/S 12 of the POCSO Act. 


Following the judgment, the court ordered that the accused, who was out on bail, “be taken into custody for undergoing the remaining jail sentence.”
