The second day of the ongoing Budget Session of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly witnessed deliberations on the Motion of Thanks to the Governor’s Address, with members highlighting the recent agreement for the Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority (FNTA) as a landmark development.

Participating in the discussion, Advisor TN Mannen termed the signing of the MoU for the FNTA a welcome step that could help resolve long-standing negotiation issues. However, he struck a note of caution, asserting that beyond the celebrations, the core issues of power-sharing and fund allocation must be meticulously addressed. He underscored the need for proper and responsible utilization of funds, adding that the fulfilment of the FNTA’s aspirations would largely depend on the quality of leadership. He further stated that while the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO) area would receive enhanced funding over the next decade, leaders are expected to ensure overall development and socio-economic justice for all.

MLA Lima Onen Chang expressed appreciation to the government for responding to the aspirations of the people of Eastern Nagaland by signing the Memorandum of Agreement for the constitution of the FNTA. MLA P Longon also welcomed the establishment of the authority while emphasizing the importance of its proper and effective implementation.

Describing the signing of the FNTA agreement on February 5, 2026, as “historic,” MLA Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu expressed hope that the pact would end the persistent blame game regarding the development of the eastern districts. He voiced optimism that the agreement would usher in an era of peace, unity, and accelerated development in the Eastern Nagaland region.
