Excessive water accumulation in Doyang Water Reservoir
The ADC Bhandari, Tiameren Chang in an advisory issued on July 31, 2018 has notified all concerned that due to incessant rain and flash flood upstream in Kohima area over the past few days, there is accumulation of excessive water in the Doyang Water Reservoir.
He informed that the NEEPCO engineers are monitoring the water level round the clock and to maintain the water level in the reservoir, the water is being released periodically from all tour spillway gates. The worst affected area from the release of the spillway gates will be the villages downstream in the Bhandari-Merapani-Golghat area.
In this regard, it is requested to issue high alert to resident and farmers, vehicular passengers to avoid the river banks till further advisory. “The advisories may be widely circulated through all media for safety of the public,” the ADC Bhandari added.
KMC reminds to minimize waste at source
All the residents under Kohima municipality are informed that due to incessant rain, many landslides have occurred and many roads have sunk at different locations causing untold problems and hardships to the public. It is reminded to minimize waste at source and restrict throwing of waste on the road sides as transport of waste to the dumping site is also facing untold hardship by municipal as well as wars sanitation committees. Most of the roads are closed due to the landslides. Therefore, the public are requested to cooperate with Municipal in order to keep the town clean. This was informed in a press release issued by Kohima Municipal Council Administration, Elizabeth Ngully.
Panchayat chairmen notified
ADC Kohima, Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa has informed the Panchayat Chairman of Wards and Colonies to keep their concerned Panchayat Hall ready or to identify any vacant place for use as relief camp in case of casualties from landslide and calamities in Kohima due to heavy rainfall.
