DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 21 (MExN): The Measles and Rubella Vaccination Campaign (MRVC) has crossed 97% coverage in Nagaland State as of November 20.
A press note from the state Immunisation Officer, Dr Atoshe Sema informed that 4,35,346 children have been successfully vaccinated through various school and outreach sessions. The Department is hopeful to reach 100% coverage by the end of the extended campaign, he stated.
The press note further informed that a review meeting was held with all District Immunisation Officers on November 21 during which it was agreed to give credit to the administration, education, social welfare and all departments for their support and involvement in the campaign. It also acknowledged all NGOs, partner organisations and especially the front-line health workers.
The department meanwhile urged the few remaining “resistant” families/villages, especially in Phek and Zunheboto where district MR coverage is still at 89% and 93% respectively, to proceed to the nearest health facility for vaccination at the earliest, “lest their children miss the precious MR vaccine and be a potential threat to the whole community in the spread of Measles and Rubella disease.”
“The overwhelming immunization numbers and co-operation received from the communities till date speaks for itself that the vaccine is totally safe and the benefits of being vaccinated far outweigh the misleading doubts and rumors,” the press note added.
